Associate Scientist II, in vivo

Overview:

The open associate scientist position is one that will support all in vivo, small animal medical imaging studies. These studies include nuclear medicine (PET/SPECT), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Associate Scientist will maintain the animal facility and provide study support in mouse and rat disease models ranging from basic injections to surgical procedures. This position will provide an opportunity for growth with respect to scientific scope and overall laboratory capabilities. A qualified applicant is enthusiastic about biomedical research, able and willing to rapidly learn new skills and begin applying them immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Routine husbandry, including providing appropriate clinical observations, basic veterinary care, and weekend health checks
  • Contributing to the operation of a small species animal care facility (ACF)
  • Learning and providing daily technical support including but not limited to:
  • Injections and infusions via multiple routes (IV, PO, SC, IM)
  • SC cell inoculation or tumor fragment implantation for xenograft models
  • Necropsies for biodistribution studies
  • Anesthesia and euthanasia support
  • Compound dosing for treatment studies
  • Routine cleaning and sanitizing
  • Updating and tracking environmental logs
  • Stocking food, bedding, and supplies
  • Assisting with daily health and welfare inspections
  • Managing facility needs, including facility health program

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in Animal Science or a related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in the biomedical/pharmaceutical research industry performing responsibilities noted above
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Comfort with various computer operating systems and programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Weekend work required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

Preferred but not required qualifications:

  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, experimental design, and pharmacology or small animal imaging in the context of pharmaceutical research
  • In vitro assay and cell culture applications
  • Experience with rodent animal facility operations
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or AAALAS certified
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage complex experimental designs
